Peace on the panel for Minaj and Carey
Peace on the panel for Minaj and Carey

Stars and their publicists and, in some cases, their entourages were out in force at the historic Langham Huntington Hotel in California on Tuesday night for the Fox network's all-stars party as part of the Television Critics Association of America winter press tour.

American Idol judge *Nicki Minaj *arrived in what appeared to be a figure- hugging black lace dress and a jet black wig but it was hard to get too close to the petite rapper, flanked by the same minders who accompanied her to her Idol panel question-and-answer session earlier in the day.

During that session, Minaj wore a sexy low-cut silver and gold dress and sky-high heels that required her to be helped down the stage stairs.

Minaj and fellow new Idol judge *Mariah Carey *were both repeatedly asked whether their well-publicised spat last year was genuine and then to say something nice about each other.

Minaj said Carey was one of her all-time favourite artists while Carey, who apologised for having a sinus infection and laryngitis contracted from her children while on her Australian tour last week, said she knew Minaj would go far back when she appeared on the remix for Carey's ironically named Up Out My Face. Idol starts January 17 on Ten, fast-tracked from the US.

Bones co-stars and co-producers *Emily Deschanel *and *David Boreanaz *, whose drama was yesterday renewed for a ninth season, were at the Fox party as were Glee's *Harry Shum Jr *, *Lea Michele *, *Kevin McHale *and *Naya Rivera *, New Girl's *Jake Johnson *and *Lamorne Morris *, The Mindy Project's *Mindy Kaling *(coming to Seven) and Raising Hope's *Lucas Neff *and *Cloris Leachman *.

  • Keith Urban *, who left The Voice Australia to join the American Idol panel next to Carey and Minaj, was a popular target for writers brandishing digital recorders, as were *Kevin Bacon *and *James Purefoy *, who co-star in the Kevin Williamson thriller The Following.

Bacon plays Ryan Hardy, a former FBI agent called out of retirement to investigate serial killer Joe Carroll, played by British actor Purefoy.

Purefoy delighted the audience at The Following's panel by kissing Bacon after a reporter joked she'd like to see their characters kiss.

"Rule nothing in, rule nothing out," he said of the drama, which debuts on Fox on January 21 and will air this year on Nine. SUE YEAP, TV EDITOR, CALIFORNIA
