The couples who will return to The Block to battle it out in the all-stars season of the smash-hit reality renovation show have been revealed.

Adelaide's Phil Rankine and Amity Dry (from the first season in 2003), Sydney tradie mates Mark Bowyer and Duncan Miller (from season 3 in 2010), Melbourne newlyweds Josh and Jenna Densten (from last year's series), and Melbourne's fiery Dan Reilly and Dani Wales (labelled the "most hated" contestants from this year's series), have all been confirmed to return to the Nine show for a second chance at victory.

Filming began on Friday on the series which will see the couples renovate four run-down Federation cottages in Bondi, the Sydney suburb where the first season was set almost 10 years ago.

The series is expected to kick-start Nine's 2013 schedule in February; with a second Melbourne-based edition of The Block featuring new couples expected to air in the second half of the year.
