Police in Queensland are monitoring a Facebook page set up by a man who's threatening to break in to the Gold Coast compound housing the Big Brother contestants.

The man claims he lives near the reality show's set, already has a criminal record and is prepared to be arrested for the break-in if his page receives 50,000 likes.

By Thursday afternoon almost 30,000 people had thrown their support behind the anonymous man, with some publicly congratulating him for the plan.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman told AAP it was aware of the page, but so far no crime had been committed.

The Nine Network series, launched on Monday night, runs for 12 weeks and sees 14 people filmed while living together.

Big Brother has been contacted for comment.
