Twilight star sorry over affair
Twilight star sorry over affair

As Twilight fans cope with the news Kristen Stewart cheated on her on-screen husband and real-life boyfriend Robert Pattinson, a question mark hangs over how her infidelity will affect her career and the release of the final Twilight film.

Stewart - the highest paid actress in Hollywood - apologised on Wednesday over her affair with Rupert Sanders, 41, director of her latest film Snow White and the Huntsman.

She told people.com: "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

However, it remains to be seen what impact steamy photos of Stewart, 22, with the British father-of-two Sanders, who is married to actress Liberty Ross, will have on her reputation and takings for Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II, which opens in November.

Hollywood.com box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian said Twilight fans had been romantically tied to Stewart and Pattinson since 2008, when they were cast as Bella Swan and her vampire suitor Edward Cullen.

However, Dergarabedian said the publicity could draw more people to the film. The teen girls would still support Pattinson, he said, and "there is a curiosity factor now to see them on screen together and know what's transpired".

Sanders has publicly apologised to his family. Pattinson, 26, has not commented.
