WA duo rise high in MasterChef

WA will be well represented in the MasterChef top 10, with two contestants hailing from Perth among the mix.

Home cooks Sara Oteri and Jessica Arnott have fought tooth and nail for coveted spots among the line-up, which was unveiled on the Ten show last night.

Despite the sometimes cutthroat nature of the competition and the fact that they both want to do their State of origin proud, the two women insist there is no rivalry whatsoever between them.

“Our families sat next to each other at auditions on the very first day,” Arnott explained toAAA .

“We really clicked that day and we have been friends ever since. I would consider her my first friend in the group and we always support each other.

“You don’t necessarily see it on TV but if either of us is in an elimination or immunity challenge, the other is right there supporting. There is no rivalry whatsoever.”

Arnott added she had an inkling she would reach the top 10 but didn’t want to get too ahead of herself.

“I am not one who ever gets too optimistic about anything in case it doesn’t pan out but I did always have a vision of myself getting to this point,” she said.

Oteri and Arnott were singled out by world-renowned chef Heston Blumenthal as the ones to watch after he saw them cook in a recent challenge.

The pair said they were stunned about his praise for them.

“That’s amazing,” Oteri, who is now based in Melbourne, said.

“It’s weird because we come from cooking at home for our families, so to have someone as renowned as him compliment what you’re doing, that is an incredible confidence boost.

“It puts things into perspective that maybe you’re more capable than you think.”
