Eamon Sullivan has revealed he and new fiancee Naomi Bass are eyeing a wedding date in April next year.

The Olympic swimmer turned restaurateur popped the question to his lady love in Japan last month, proposing on a Kyoto street under a cherry blossom tree in full bloom.

Sullivan presented Bass, a lawyer, with a custom ring from Solid Gold Diamonds, which features a two-carat sparkler from Canada’s Diavik mine surrounded by 14 pink Argyle diamonds inspired by the proposal location.

While Sullivan admitted they were yet to delve headfirst into wedding plans, he said they were considering tying the knot in less than 12 months.

“We are thinking April next year but haven't locked in a date yet,” the 29-year-old toldAAA Weekend .

“We have written a list of things we need to organise and (we are) trying to get through them.”

Although Sullivan has travelled around the world during his time as one of Australia’s top sports stars, it seems there is no place like home for him and Bass, with the couple saying they want to host their nuptials near Perth.

“We will have it in WA. I would love to have an outdoor wedding, so maybe somewhere in rural WA where we can have lots of space,” Sullivan said.

As for whether the Bib and Tucker owner’s two beloved French bulldogs Duke and Baxter will be participating in his big day, Sullivan said it was unlikely.

“We would love to have our dogs involved but more than likely they will swallow the rings or chew her dress,” he said.

“So they will probably be staying at home.”
