Perth actor takes on Big Apple

From botched job interviews to awkward bodily functions, embarrassing real-life experiences will come to the fore in a new web series by Perth expats Conrad Le Bron and Mischa Ipp.

The creative duo, who are the brains behind Little Y Film, are hoping to make their mark on the entertainment industry with Then That Happened — a production charting the ups, downs and in-betweens of three young friends trying to make their dreams a reality among the bright lights of New York City.

“We really want to push the boundaries and not shy away from anything, so some of the stories are ultra-embarrassing,” Le Bron toldAAA of the show.

“Our goal is to touch, move and inspire people and tell stories that people can identify themselves in, relate to and hopefully learn something from as well.”

While he is quick to point out that not all of the unpleasant tales featured in the script are based on his own encounters, the Melville-raised actor admits his relocation to the US did inspire a number of key plot points.

“Moving to a new city is a big deal and a city like New York can be like a rollercoaster with huge highs and really depressing lows,” Le Bron said.

“Everyone is trying to hustle and get what they want and create something for themselves, which is what makes it so riveting and exciting but also really difficult.”

After nearly two years abroad, the 28-year-old performer is temporarily back in Perth to raise funds for the new project, which will commence production in July.

Rather than relying on a crowd- funding website to get the series off the ground, Little Y Film hosted a red-carpet event at The Terrace Hotel last night, where guests were treated a sneak peek of the episodes.

“We really wanted to give back to people and offer something to the public rather than just asking them for money,” Le Bron explained. “We wanted to throw a really cool party that people can come to and have a great time at, rather than just holding our hands out asking for a payout.”
