Drama for House Rules duo

Geraldton couple Karina and Brian Day, on-set drama early in House Rules.

Geraldton couple Karina and Brian Day experienced a somewhat terrifying start to their House Rules journey.

The Seven show’s new season launched last night and drama was already running high from the moment the first renovation kicked off, with Karina suffering a nasty injury almost as soon as she set foot on the property of Melbourne duo Bronik and Corinne(no surnames).

The teams had been given the all-clear to take off their hard hats after the demolition stage was finished when a loose roof tile sitting in the rafters fell on the WA woman’s head, almost knocking her out.

“When I felt the tile drop on my head I was so shocked,” Karina toldAAA .

“I just dropped to the ground and Brian was calling out ‘medic’, totally panicking me.”

Brian added: “My main concern was if there had been a fracture of the skull because I saw the tile shattered on the ground next to her. The fact there was a lot of blood made it very scary.”

TV viewers will see the outcome of Karina’s injury when the show continues today at 7.30pm on Seven/GWN7.

The launch episode also marked the first time the Days met their opponents and they were surprised to find they were the oldest team on the current series.

Determined to stand their ground, the pair quickly became involved in a verbal clash with Sydney contestant Tiana over the size of their zones, with Brian wanting to maximise the space in one of his areas, the ensuite.

“I think we all pretty much went in all guns blazing,” the former miner said of the blue.

“We wanted to get as much space as we could but you need to think about what is best for the house and the couple overall.”

But any challenges are more than worth it for Brian and Karina, who signed up hoping to win and have their mortgage paid off.

“We are sacrificing time with our kids, Brian has had to give up his job,” Karina said.

“If we don’t come out on top of this and get ahead in our life, then we will be struggling for another 40 years.”
