Tame Impala frontman waiting on earnings

Tame Impala’s frontman, Kevin Parker, says that he hasn’t recieved any money for some of his band’s international record sales.

Perth-raised Parker was talking openly in an online chat with fans, set up by website Reddit, when a question about downloading music led to the revelation.

“Up until recently, from all of Tame Impala’s record sales outside of Australia I had received .... zero dollars. Someone high up spent the money before it got to me. I may never get that money,” he wrote.

However, the singer did reveal that he made some money from the use of the band’s music in some advertising campaigns.

“Then Blackberry and some tequila brand or something put my song in an ad. Then I bought a house and set up a studio,” he said.

Parker also revealed that he doesn’t really have any issue with people downloading music for free and even had some of his most “important musical experiences” from a burnt CD of songs downloaded by a friend.

“As far as I’m concerned the best thing you can do for an artist is listen to the music ... fall in love with it ... talk about it ... get it however you can get it ... Let the corporations pay for,” he said.

He also said he thought music will be free sooner or later.

Parker and the rest of the psychedelic band from Perth will release their highly anticipated record, Currents - the first since 2012’s acclaimed Lonerism - this year.

They’ve already released two tracks from the record - the epic eight-minute track Let it Happen and then the first official single, Cause I’m A Man.

Tame Impala will perform at Splendour In The Grass in July.
