Naomi Watts says she took it personally when her movie Diana wasn’t a success as it was such a risky role to take on.

The actress played the late Diana Princess of Wales in the 2013 biopic, which was universally panned.

“It’s always a disappointment if things don’t go well and in this case it felt personal because I was playing that role and it was a big risk for me to take on,” Watts told News Ltd.

However, the actress went in to the role with her eyes open and said she knew it was going to be tricky as people had such strong feelings about the late princess.

“I went into it with the hope, as an actor, to make a transformation and tell a story of this ironic situation: a woman who was struggling with happiness, but yet, a princess! And that level of fame is extreme; there really hasn’t been anyone like it since,” she said.

Even though the film wasn’t a success, with critics or at the box office, Watts has no regrets.

“You know what? It doesn’t matter. It’s not gonna make or break me at this point, so it was worth trying,” she said.
