They've felt the heat just as much off camera since appearing on Seven’s reality cooking hit My Kitchen Rules but Carol Molloy and Adam Anderson are holding their heads high.

The NSW newlyweds, who were booted off the show last night after losing the sudden death cook-off to British foodiesSteve Flood andWill Stewart , have been taken aback by the public scrutiny of their personal lives.

Anderson was recently labelled a “deadbeat dad” by his ex-wifeCindy , who appeared in a scathing TV interview claiming he had abandoned his five children and had racked up about $36,000 in unpaid child support.

Opening up about the ordeal, the former tennis pro said he had been disappointed with how his personal situation had played out in the public eye.

“It’s not a pleasant situation when you deal with it out in the public nor is it when you’re dealing with it in private,”Anderson toldAAA .

“The matter itself is not a pleasant matter but it doesn’t need to be aired. It’s one of those things where it happens every day. But anyway, it turned up the heat a little bit on our lives.”

Molloy said the couple had been traumatised by the whole ordeal.

“It was very traumatic, especially for Adam,” she said. “But you have to try your hardest not to take it personally.

“I think things have calmed down now but you have to try and rise above it. “It’s certainly been a steep learning curve in terms of how the media operates.”

That said, the duo are still hopeful Anderson will reunite with his children.

“Hopefully, because of the heightened interest, it means that Adam can try and see his kids again, who we haven’t seen for two years,” Molloy said. “There is hope.”

Now the couple have officially departed the show, it seems they have already set the wheels in motion to pursue their love of food.

“We’re still getting it sorted but we’re looking at doing some foodie stuff in Sydney and possibly broader as well, so you definitely haven’t seen the last of us,” Molloy teased.

Anderson added: “We don’t have idle hands, we’ve basically been putting together some stuff and once we’re ready we’ll hit the ground running.”

My Kitchen Rules continues today at 7.30pm on Seven/GWN7.
