TV remake for end of world

The Perth-made eve-of- destruction film thriller These Final Hours is heading to television, with Luc Besson’s Europacorp snapping up the remake rights.

Besson’s company has commissioned writer-director Zak Hilditch to write and direct a new version of These Final Hours for a TV series, with Liz Kearney once again on board as a producer.

“Developing the series with Europacorp offers us such a great opportunity to expand upon the world of These Final Hours and explore the lives of a whole new set of characters suddenly faced with the ultimate ticking clock,” Hilditch says.

Kearney is also over the moon about the opportunity to revisit These Final Hours.

“When Zak and I first set out making the film we never anticipated it would result in a US TV series deal. This is an amazing outcome and something as a filmmaker you dream about,” she says.

In the proposed television series, Hilditch will follow eight characters during their final week on Earth.

Despite being selected to screen in Director’s Fortnight during the Cannes Film Festival in 2013, These Final Hours failed to fire at the Australian box office.

The US series will give Hilditch and Kearney a second chance of reaching the younger audience who stayed away the first time around.
