Jolie's joy all in the family

A *ngelina Jolie *was surrounded by some her biggest fans when she made her first post-surgery appearance at the Kids' Choice Awards in California at the weekend.

The actress was joined by excited daughters *Zahara *, 10, and * Shiloh *, 8, at the awards where she won the gong for favourite villain for her role in smash hit Maleficent.

It was just days earlier the 39-year-old revealed in an opinion piece for The New York Times that she had had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.

She said she made the decision to go through with the surgery after her doctors told her that she was showing the early signs of cancer.

In May 2013, Jolie revealed that she had undergone a preventive double mastectomy after genetic tests revealed she was at a high risk for both breast and ovarian cancer, which claimed the life her mother, *Marcheline Bertrand *, in 2007.

In the most recent op-ed, Jolie revealed that she underwent the surgery in mid-March, which has sent her into menopause. She also wrote about how husband *Brad Pitt *had supported her through her ordeal.

She wrote that she called Pitt, who was on a trip in France, and he was "on a plane within hours" to be by her side.

Last year, Jolie said that her health issues had brought her family closer.

"We've been through so much," she said. "We've gotten a lot closer, which I think naturally happens with raising a family together. You have history . . . You have this person who really knows you, and you know them so well. You're not lovers or boyfriend and girlfriend as much as you are a family."
