Dads dumped for lack of fight

Competing in a reality TV series as a couple of middle-aged blokes is not a recipe for success, according to My Kitchen Rules' latest evictees *Rob McKean *and *Dave Evans *.

The Queensland mates, who lost last night's cook-off after consistently good scores from the judges, admitted they didn't add enough drama to the show.

"MKR thrives on stuff going wrong," Dave, 51, told _AAA _. "Unless there's heat in the kitchen there's really no show.

"If you've got two middle-aged guys cooking like they do every day and everything goes along smoothly, it's 'Yes these guys can cook good food but they haven't wrecked anything'."

While younger female contestants "love to fight" on the show, the dads said they just got on with the cooking.

"The girls seem to love to niggle one another and can't help themselves," Rob, 48, said.

Dave added: "There was nothing there for the media to report about us. We didn't have any bad times and just got on."

As middle-aged business owners (in concreting and international freight) Dave said they also fought less than others because they didn't have a need to prove themselves.

"Our age probably has a bit to do with it," he said. "We also run our own businesses and are competent in our abilities in all sorts of situations."

After getting kicked off the show, the pair felt deflated but had no regrets.

"We were probably eliminated a bit earlier than we should have been," Rob, a father of two, said.

"I know we were better cooks than some of the other teams. For (judge) *Colin Fassnidge *to say that our steak was cooked perfectly, our puree silky smooth, 'Yet we're going to put you in the bottom two anyway', you think 'Well, what more can we do?'

"I don't have any hard feelings, it's a show and a process of elimination."
