Brit viewers hurl insults at Crowe

Days after he snubbed the Oscars for a footy game, Russell Crowe has been pilloried over his appearance at the Brit Awards.

People queried why the actor was wearing a long coat inside while others asked when he started looking like John Goodman.

Some even wondered why he appeared at the event at all.

One of the most vicious tweets came from broadcaster Alison Bell who thought it was "fair to say that Russell Crowe ate all the pies".

Others joked that he must have been brought in at the last minute or needed the cash.

"And Russell Crowe is at the Brits because..!??!? He needs the money?!? No one will hire him after Noah?!?.What?!? ActorLife," said RichOliverActor

"Brits PR: "We need an A-List actor" "They're all at the Oscars" "Not even a Redmayne?" "Russell Crowe's in town?" "F*** it, he'll do," said MazzyK.

Some viewers were supporting Crowe but many did so because he "looked like their dad" or due to reports he's considering buying Leeds United.

At least Ed Sheeran, to whom Crowe presented an award, seemed happy to see him.

"Russell Crowe everybody, sick," he said as he walked on stage.

"It's nice to meet you," he said after his speech.

Crowe, who owns the South Sydney Rabbitohs with James Packer, was supposed to present at the Oscars this week but snubbed the ceremony to watch his NRL team smash English side St Helen's 39-0.

On the day of the match he told the BBC he was supposed to present with Ryan Gosling but said "Oh sorry I (have) got a previous engagement" when organisers told him the date.
