Gemma to star for Prada

Perth supermodel Gemma Ward created a massive buzz when she made her long-awaited catwalk comeback for Prada during Milan Fashion Week late last year.

And yesterday the Perth supermodel was again the talk of the international fashion world after Prada revealed Ward would be the star of their major new brand campaign.

In freshly released imagery, Ward appears in a patchwork dress and holds a petite leather bag from Prada's spring 2015 collection.

The deliberately grainy black and white shot was captured by renowned American photographer Steven Meisel.

It is Ward's latest collaboration with the brand, having met designer Miuccia Prada more than a decade ago when she was starting out in the international modelling scene.

After rising to prominence in 2003, the Nedlands-raised beauty went on to walk for a handful of the world's top designers before a break to pursue acting.

The 27-year-old then fell pregnant to Sydney-based model boyfriend David Letts and daughter Naia was born in December 2013.

After a six-year hiatus from the catwalk, Ward's return to the runway last year was a move that surprised many in the fashion industry.

She then appeared in a campaign to mark Australian retailer Country Road's 40th anniversary with baby Naia by her side and also graced the 55th anniversary cover of Vogue Australia. Ward recently said becoming a mother had empowered her and provided the encouragement she needed to pursue her career.

"It has given me a strength of purpose," she said.

"It's also created a confidence for me.

"I stepped away (from modelling) and I'm back with a feeling of pure enjoyment. I see it in my future now and I can't wait."
