Wicked flying back to Perth

Smash hit musical Wicked is heading back to Perth as part of its 10th Anniversary tour.

The show, which has been Broadway's number one show for a decade, will return to WA with a season kicking off next year on May 6 at Perth's Crown Theatre.

Perth musical theatre starlet Lucy Durack once again starred as her much loved role as Glinda the Good Witch when the anniversary tour kicked off in Melbourne earlier this year.

Casting for the Perth season is yet to be confirmed.

"We are thrilled to bring Wicked back to Perth" said producer John Frost.

"Perth audiences flocked to Wicked during the last season, and we've had hundreds of requests on social media to bring it back. Wicked is a musical phenomenon; it has been seen by over 40 million people worldwide and regularly grosses in excess of US$1.8 million each week on Broadway. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience".

Winner of over 90 major awards including the Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and seven Helpmann Awards including Best Musical, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz.

One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman.
