Bloom thrilled to meet Aussie fans

Orlando Bloom doesn't have a Facebook or Twitter account, so he was thrilled to connect with Aussie fans during his latest trip Down Under.

Bloom visited Oz Comic-Con in Brisbane and Sydney to meet fans, and many paid to get professional photos and autographs with The Hobbit star.

"There's so many passionate, creative people who just gathered to celebrate our films and for somebody who doesn't do social media and I don't Facebook and stuff, it's really rare that I get the chance to connect with my fans so directly," Bloom told media at a British Airways event on Monday.

Bloom spoke at a Comic-Con panel, but for fans who wanted something more personal, they could pay $100 for a photo or autograph from Bloom, $250 for a meet-and-greet with fellow Hobbit stars Stephen Hunter and Dean O'Gorman, or fork out $550 for the ultimate Orlando Bloom experience, which included all the above and other goodies.

The British actor says a fellow actor from The Hobbit urged him to get involved in more conventions at San Diego Comic-Con International.

So when Oz Comic-Con came up, it was perfect timing.

"It was just a great chance to catch up with some family and friends," he says.

Bloom was married to Australian model Miranda Kerr, with whom he has three-year-old son Flynn, and says he visits Australia about once or twice a year.

He also has a couple of travel tips for parents travelling on long-haul flights with children.

"Prayers. Lots of praying," he jokes.

"I've been very lucky. My son's travelled quite a lot since he was little.

"We always have like a few games and toys and a few of his small favourite things, just to kind of keep him occupied.

"It's probably one of the only times. I'm OK with an iPad to come out for a little while, just to get him through the challenging moments."
