The half-sister of Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has been found dead in her car on the eve of her 48th birthday.
Jessica Barrymore was discovered slumped behind the wheel surrounded by “dozens of white pills” according to a local San Diego news station.
10News reported that they discovered her body at 6am as they tried to leave for work.
Barrymore, who has long-struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, was found unconscious blocking the driveway of Marta Lopez.
“You need help, you need help,” Lopez told her, but the woman did not respond.
Ms Lopez checked to see if she was still breathing before seeing dozens of white pills on the passenger seat.
Police told 10News that the woman’s cause of death will be known after an autopsy while the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the body is that of Jessica Barrymore, born on July 31st, 1966.
Drew Barrymore, who won a Golden Globe in 2010 for TV movie Grey Gardens, had two half-sisters Blyth and Jessica, and has herself suffered with much-publicized drug problems in the past, which began as a child star in the 1980s.
