Kanye West has postponed his Australian tour.

Set to kick off in Perth next month, the rap hitmaker had planned to travel the country with his critically acclaimed Yeezus tour over seven dates.

However, today promoter Live Nation announced West would be delaying his visit Down Under due to "unexpected timing requirements" as he wraps up his next album, which they said will be released later this year.

The organisation added the tour would now begin at Perth Arena on September 5 and then move to other capital cities, with all tickets for the initial shows honoured for the new dates.

With the news falling on April 1, fans were quick to suggest West's tour postponement was just an April Fools' Day joke as hundreds of commenters reacted to the announcement on Live Nation's Facebook page.

But the promoter was quick to quash prank rumours, insisting the star had indeed delayed the Australian tour.

Other fans suggested West's impending nuptials with fiance Kim Kardashian, which are said to be taking place in Paris in late may, were to blame.

"Rumours have said that him and Kim are getting married in May this year so this could be the actual reason why but his using the excuse of his new album not being completed!!!," one user wrote.

Any ticket holders unable to attend the concerts on the rescheduled date must contact Ticketek before 5.00pm on April 30 2014 to arrange a refund.
