Terry has special kind of X Factor
Terry Vo aroused emotion throughout Australia with his inspirational story of enduring a horrific accident in 2005.
When he was just 10 years old, Vo was playing basketball in a friend's backyard when he slam-dunked the ball, bringing the hoop, brick wall and gutters crashing down, severing both his hands and his left foot.
Although his foot could not be saved, doctors at Princess Margaret Hospital reattached his hands, enabling him to ultimately regain full movement in them.
Now 19 and studying biomedical science at the University of WA, Vo hopes to inspire again, but this time through music.
The Mirrabooka teenager found out this week that he has made it through to the live auditions of this year's The X Factor.
"I didn't know how to feel when I received the email - I just couldn't believe it," he told _The Weekend West _.
Vo goes to Melbourne next month to sing in front of the all-star judging panel and a live audience.
Vo has had no professional training, instead discovering he could sing in the shower.
"I started singing when I was just about 10, just in the shower, just any song that was on the radio," he said.
If Vo makes it through to The X Factor's live shows, which will screen on Seven/ GWN7 this year, he will put his dream of becoming a doctor on hold.
