The world's highest-paid TV star Sofia Vergara has joined other cast members of her hit sitcom Modern Family in Australia.

The brunette bombshell landed in Sydney yesterday amid a media frenzy but appeared excited after tweeting: "Australia here we goooo!"

Most of the cast of the hit US sitcom are now in Australia to film a special holiday episode.

The final actors will arrive today, ahead of a red-carpet reception in Sydney tomorrow. It's the first time the show will film an episode outside the US since it began five seasons ago.

Vergara, who plays the loud and curvaceous Gloria, tweeted a photo of herself with on-screen son Rico Rodriguez as they were boarding their Los Angeles flight to Australia.

Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cam in the show, arrived Down Under a few days ago, as did Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays his partner Mitchell.

In the Australia episode, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) will have an allergic reaction to Vegemite and get attacked by a kangaroo - when it screens later this year.
