Charlotte Dawson has sparked speculation over whether she will return to the Australia's Next Top Model panel this year.

The New Zealand-born former model, who has been a judge on the Foxtel series since 2007, posted a cryptic message on Twitter on Wednesday questioning whether young girls should pursue modelling.

"I truly adored my time on ANTM but my heart tells me I don't think young girls should pursue the Modelling world," she wrote.

The tweet prompted a flood of questions from fans over what spurred Dawson's drastic change of heart, given the 47-year-old had also entered into modelling at a young age.

"Bring it! Hypocrisy since I was a 16 year old that began my career but I can no longer be a part of this machine," Dawson added in another tweet.

Dawson's exit may not come as a complete surprise given she hinted at plans to quit TV last year.

"I'm tired of the anxiety that comes with working in media, especially as a woman, because you're scrutinised daily, and abused about the way you look," she said.

After joining the Foxtel series last year, Jennifer Hawkins is yet to confirm whether she will return to the show but it seems there could already be a seat to fill on the Top Model panel.
