Hunters collection finally listed
Perth bands Birds of Tokyo, the Panics and Abbe May feature on a new tribute album to mighty Melbourne rockers Hunters and Collectors, Crucible, due out next month.
While dribs and drabs, such as the involvement of Paul Kelly, Something for Kate and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, have emerged in the past few months, the full slab - that is, details of all 15 tracks - has finally been unveiled. Birds of Tokyo kick off the album with Talking to a Stranger, followed by Vedder and Neil Finn's cover of the Hunnas' all-time classic Throw Your Arms Around Me.
Other noteworthy tracks include Oh Mercy doing The Slab (Betty's Worry), the Rubens covering Holy Grail and the Avalanches emerging from exile with a remix of Talking to a Stranger.
Kelly teams with Emma Donovan and producer Jimblah for True Tears of Joy.
Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour said it was "deeply rewarding" that his songs "have reached the cream of Australian talent, great singers and bands young and older . . . who have stepped up to record the best of what we delivered in those pubs so many years ago".
Crucible - The Songs of Hunters and Collectors was curated by John O'Donnell, the music maven responsible for similar projects involving the songs of Kelly and Neil and Tim Finn.
The album is due out on September 27, the day before the AFL grand final.
