Tim Minchin is getting the rock-star treatment in New York on the back of the success of his hit musical, Matilda.
The Perth-raised star welcomed legendary actor Robert De Niro backstage after a performance of Matilda in New York last week, the New York Daily News reported.
De Niro isn't the only celeb to have checked out the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's popular children's book in recent days, with Helen Hunt, Kevin Jonas and WA actress Kate Mulvany also spotted at the Shubert Theatre.
Mulvany, who was in the Big Apple to help promote her role in The Great Gatsby, tweeted: "Matilda is the best thing I've EVER seen. I love it. I play the soundtrack while I do Pilates. It's ridiculous."
Minchin will head back Down Under shortly to appear as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, which opens at Perth Arena on May 31.
He will also star in a Sydney Theatre Company production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead later this year alongside fellow WA actors Ewen Leslie and Toby Schmitz.
