Perth's Jessica Gomes has been supported by some of Australia's leading models since news broke that the 27-year-old has been crowned the new face of David Jones, replacing Miranda Kerr.

"Thrilled to have @iamjessicagomes on board as a fellow & official 'face' of @DavidJonesStore. Looking forward to working together gorgeous (sic)," fellow Perth supermodel and David Jones ambassador Megan Gale tweeted at the weekend, while Lara Bingle wrote: "So happy for you Jess! Xx."

Gomes' best friend, Perth supermodel Nicole Trunfio, was also ecstatic at Gomes winning one of the highest-profile and most lucrative modelling jobs in Australia.

"So proud of my girl @iamjessicagomes as the new @DavidJonesStore ambassador! They couldn't have picked a better woman! Love you to the moon," Trunfio tweeted.

All of these accolades should really come as no surprise, as Gomes has always been refreshingly down-to-earth.

Since she began modelling in the early 2000s, Gomes, who is now based in Los Angeles with property developer boyfriend Sebastian Drapac, has worked alongside some of WA's biggest modelling exports.

The former La Salle College student even competed against a 15-year-old Gemma Ward for the title of WA Model of the Year in 2003, which Ward won.

In 2003, Gomes was a regular on the Perth fashion and party scene, when the Colonnade and Onyx Bar were the hot spots, appearing in local fashion shows alongside Trunfio, Ward, Amy Finlayson and Rebecca Judd (nee Twigley).

Since cracking the big time in 2008 when she landed her first Sports Illustrated swimsuit-edition spread, something she has done every year since, even despite the cut-throat competition in her industry, whenever another high-profile personality talks of Gomes, it is nothing but praise.

"I love Jess, I think she is fantastic. She is just a gorgeous, bombshell of a woman," Gale told AAA last year.

Gale said she admired her voluptuous shape and was excited when she learnt Gomes was going to take to the runway at the David Jones spring-summer 2012 launch sporting her swimwear brand Isola.

"Her look and her shape is exactly how I see the Isola woman being," Gale said.

Trunfio told AAA recently she appreciated having Gomes on the international modelling circuit with her because it helped to keep both of them grounded.

"I think to have your best friend to be doing exactly the same thing that you are doing in the same places at the same time is such a blessing," she said.

"It is just really awesome to have something who knows who I really am around me to catch me when I fall, or just to support or be a good mate."
