It was a special trip back to Perth this week for Nicole Trunfio.

The Merredin-born supermodel, who has been based in New York for the past decade, was able to bring her high-profile beau Gary Clark Jr to her home town for the first time.

Texan blues guitarist Clark Jr performed at the Perth Big Day Out at Claremont Showground on Sunday.

Trunfio was side of stage for the performance just as she had been during most of his Australian shows.

The couple began dating almost a year ago, and became serious late last year when they moved in together in a three-level apartment in New York's Soho district.

They also appear inseparable, supporting each other's careers and even attending the White House before Christmas.

Acclaimed US designer Zac Posen dressed Trunfio for the occasion.

"Nothing beats a romantic candlelit dinner with my man," she told Vogue Australia last week.

It's no coincidence that Trunfio is dating a musician, because she has aspirations of her own in the music world as the front woman for Henry Blak, an electro-rock band that performed for the first time last year and has just finished recording their first EP.

During her trip back to Perth, 26-year-old Trunfio, a former face of the Perth Fashion Festival who won Search for a Supermodel in 2002, would have also been able to introduce her talented boyfriend to her sister Louise and Louise's first baby, who was born in November.

During her Australian visit, Trunfio also found time to shoot a sexy new campaign for lingerie brand, Pleasure State, in Sydney.
