Producers at Nova 100 in Melbourne scrambled to find a last-minute replacement for comedian Dave Hughes yesterday morning.

He had to skip his regular breakfast show appearance with Kate Langbroek because his wife, Holly, was giving birth.

Hughes sent a text to his producer, Sacha French, on Monday night after his wife went into labour with their third child.

But French didn't get the message until 4.30 yesterday morning.

Fellow comedian Tommy Little filled in for him at the last minute.

Hughes says their baby girl, as yet unnamed, was born at 5.45am weighing 3.62kg and joins three-year-old Rafferty and one-year-old Sadie.

The comedian is planning to return to his radio duties tomorrow.
