- Local gigs for woodroofe *
Perth singer/songwriter *Grace Woodroofe *, right, spent the new year in Perth, enjoying some family time after a year working in the US. The past year saw the sultry 23-year-old songstress play showcases at the South by Southwest festival in Texas, complete a North American tour supporting her mentor, *Ben Harper, *and perform a month-long residency in the Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles. Woodroofe also enjoyed positive reviews for her debut album, Always Want, including a high-profile rave from respected New York Times critic Jon Pareles. She has begun work on the follow-up in LA and will soon head back to the US to complete the album - but not before she plays a few more hometown shows. Fans can catch Woodroofe, and the latest stage of her musical evolution, at the Ellington Jazz Club in Perth next Tuesday and Wednesday, before a farewell gig at Mojo's in Fremantle on February 2.
