Former *Perth *supermodel *Gemma Ward *appears to be plotting her modelling comeback.
The 25-year-old will come out of modelling retirement this year after leaving Vivien's Model Management and signing with mega model agent IMG Models Australia, which opened an Australian office late last year and snagged supermodel *Miranda Kerr *.
"She (Gemma) hasn't worked in this market for a long time, so to make the move now (from Vivien's), obviously it's because she wants to get back into the Australian market," IMG Models Australia's general manager *Danielle Ragenard *was quoted as saying this week.
"She's an Australian girl and this is an important market for her. And she's looking at everything IMG can offer, from endorsements to modelling contracts."
Ward's rise to the top of the modelling world was the stuff fairytales are made of.
Discovered in 2002 at age 14, she signed to Vivien's before being booked by New York model agency IMG.
With her unique wide-eyed look, often described as "alien", she landed advertising campaigns for designer labels from Christian Dior to Calvin Klein.
At 16, American Vogue listed Ward as one of nine "It Girls" to watch in the modelling world and she has appeared on about 25 Vogue covers worldwide.
After the death of boyfriend *Heath Ledger *in 2008, Ward spent some time out of the limelight but made a splash back on to the big screen as Tamara, queen of the mermaids, in Pirates of the Caribbean, followed by her stage debut in The Ugly One for the Perth Theatre Company in 2011.
She will next be seen in *Baz Luhrmann *'s version of The Great Gatsby, which opens in May.
Based in New York for most of the past decade, Ward has often made low-key return trips to visit her family in *Nedlands *.
