Dancing makes Kelly a star

It wasn't a hope, wish or prayer that landed Perth-raised actress Kelly Paterniti a role on Seven's long-running soap Home and Away - it was a jig.

"I did a little line dance in the call-back audition and no doubt I actually think that's why I got the role," she laughs to AAA.

The former John Curtin High School student debuted as Casey's (Lincoln Younes) mystery desert saviour Tamara Kingsley last October and returns as a recurring guest tonight.

The Guildford-born brunette studied performance at Curtin University and moved to Sydney to kickstart her career four years ago.

She landed roles in television series and films including Cops LAC, Packed to the Rafters, Stormworld, Griff the Invisible and Sleeping Beauty.

"When I got here I started doing theatre and did a guest role on Rafters and Cops LAC, just bits and bobs and it's all sort of gone from there."

Then earlier this year, she landed the role on Home and Away.

"It's been great, it's been really fun, everyone's been really lovely," she says. "It's amazing how quickly you start to learn your lines and it's the best training ground."
