After months of low ratings and major flops like Everybody Dance Now, Ten is hoping to turn its fortunes around with a raft of new and returning shows next month.

Among those being fast-tracked are Ryan Murphy's new series The New Normal, Glee, Ben and Kate, Justice, new seasons of comedies Modern Family and New Girl, action dramas NCIS and Hawaii Five-0, the acclaimed thriller Homeland and dramas Law & Order: SVU and The Good Wife.

Russel Howcroft has been appointed executive general manager. Based in Melbourne, he will be responsible for Network Ten's operations in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Howcroft, a panellist on ABC TV's The Gruen Transfer and Gruen Planet, is chairman and chief executive of Young & Rubicam Brands Australia and New Zealand and a director of Melbourne Football Club. He will join Ten in February.
