Keeping up with esteemed celebrity chef Kylie Kwong wasn't an easy task for MasterChef's final eight in last night's harrowing elimination challenge but for construction worker Beau Cook, his hope of becoming Australia's next MasterChef has been shattered.
From the outset, Cook seemed to have Kwong's dish down pat but one slip-up caused the 27-year-old to fall into the next round to compete against Queensland cupcake queen Julia Taylor and Asian cuisine pro Audra Morrice.
"Where I came undone was not watching the screen in the last 30 seconds to see how (Kwong) plated it up, and I didn't put my sauce on," he told AAA yesterday.
With the group expected to be whittled down to the top five by the end of this week, Cook said he was "very disappointed" to have missed out on a chance to vie for the title at next week's finale.
"I'm very disappointed, it's so close to finals week and I was hoping to keep chipping away and see how close I could get," he said. "But it just goes to show that little simple mistakes can send you home."
Meanwhile, many fans of the show are outraged that MasterChef's top five were accidentally leaked by Woman's Day magazine a week ahead of schedule.
But according to Cook, it would have little effect on how the upcoming eliminations would play out. "I don't think it's going to make too much difference, I know the media like to hype it up," he said.
