Australian actor Hugh Jackman has signed on to star in new thriller Prisoners, which has been generating heat in Hollywood since the script first surfaced in 2009.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Jackman had joined the cast, while Canadian Denis Villeneuve, who was behind the Oscar-nominated movie Incendies, will direct.
In the film, Jackman will play a carpenter who takes the law into his own hands when his daughter and best friend are abducted and the police fail to find the culprit.
After kidnapping the man he thinks is guilty, Jackman's character begins to have doubts that he's actually found the one responsible.
The Hollywood Reporter said the story by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) attracted big-name actors like Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale when it first began circulating Tinseltown, although they have since moved on because of other commitments.
