He's reportedly the highest-paid young actor in the world but Taylor Lautner is not so different from many teenagers in Australia who are lying around house within easy reach of the fridge and the pantry.
Lautner – co-star of the Twilight franchise, number two on Glamour magazines Sexiest Man Alive Poll, producer and star of a new multimillion dollar action movie – still lives at home with his mum and dad.
"I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it but, yes, I'm still with my parents," the 19-year-old heartthrob tells Access All Areas during a trip this week to Australia to promote Abduction, a pulsating Bourne-style thriller in which he plays a teen who finds himself in the middle of spy-versus-spy smackdown.
Lautner's failure to launch is simply because he has been so busy completing the Twilight saga, whose upcoming two-part conclusion will challenge Harry Potter for global hysteria and box-office gold.
"For the past year I've been at home for a total of five weeks so my real home is wherever I'm filming. I will be moving out, I promise, but for the moment it's breakfast with mum and dad," laughs Lautner.
It is little wonder that Lautner is so close to his parents Daniel and Deborah as they moved the whole family from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Los Angeles when 10-year-old Taylor declared his intention to become an actor.
"I wouldn't be here without the support of a lot of people, and my number one among them are my parents," says Lautner, who is as upbeat and unfailingly polite as you'd expect from a young actor who counts Tom Cruise and Matt Damon among his role models.
Among those closest to Lautner are his Twilight co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, with whom he shared a teary farewell as filming for the record-shattering franchise based on the vampire romances of Stephenie Meyer ended.
"It's weird because whenever we finished the other movies it was sad but we knew we would be coming back. But wrapping up the last one was very emotional," recalls Lautner, who made the role of the werewolf Jacob Black his own after producers expressed concerns about his suitability
"Robert, Kristen and I have been together constantly for the past four years, whether filming or promoting the movies, so we've become super close. It's a special bond that will continue after the Twilight journey ends."
Abduction opens on September 22.
