Artists see red over Fifty Shades

Fifty Shades of Grey may be one of the hottest tickets in cinema this year but some artists didn’t want their work featured in the film.

Director Sam Taylor-Johnson was rejected by artists who refused to allow their paintings to feature in her upcoming movie adaptation of the erotic novel.

The artist-turned-filmmaker approached her industry contacts about using their pieces to decorate Christian Grey’s apartment but some of them refused to have their work associated with the kinky movie.

Taylor-Johnson told The Guardian: “Snobbery just inhibits you... I’m sure the snobs will be coming out in full force with Fifty Shades. It was really polarising in terms of who gave permission and who didn’t ... Ed Ruscha was unbelievably generous. Gary Hume. Harland Miller. Then there were those who were just, like, no way. And you just think ‘Come on, trust me. This is going to be OK’.”
