Mordallup sale to $8250 top
Top Mordallup bulls sold for value at the Muir family's annual Angus sale held last week in Manjimup.
With 62 bulls offered, Landmark sold 50 to a top of $8250 and average price of $5125, which was up $215 per head on last year when 58 sold for an average of $4910.
Mordallup co-principal Mark Muir said the first run of bulls (lots 1 to 10) were value for money types with the balance of the catalogue selling as expected.
"We were pleased buyers were able to secure their requirements," he said.
"The beef industry is the best it has ever been and there looks to be profitable times ahead for everyone."
Unicup cattle producer Glyn Bevan, of Reland, paid the $8250 top price for lot 4, Mordallup Yalgoo J417.
The underbidder on the bull was account MA & PK Wood, of Green Range.
Mr Bevan, a long-time repeat buyer, said he admired the bull's length, growth figures for age and temperament.
The 908kg bull recorded EBV growth figures of +48, +85 and +117 for 200, 400 and 600-day weights.
Another repeat buyer, Matt Della Gola, of Northcliffe, paid $8000 for Mordallup Yalgoo J453, lot 2.
"He is a strong bull representing outcross genetics which we will put over Angus cows," Mr Della Gola said.
Both Yalgoo bulls were sired by Mordallup Timeline F195, a homebred sire which was accepted in the Angus Sire's Benchmark Program 3rd cohort.
Mr Muir said the sire has excelled within the Mordallup herd.
"His sons offered today are a true refection with good frame size and terrific muscle pattern," he said.
New buyer Fred Venables, of Yarloop, paid $8000 for lot 6, Mordallup Timeline J205
Mr Venables attended the sale with his wife Lorraine and son Oliver, who run 140 Angus breeders and want to increase numbers and quality.
Landmark auctioneer Tiny Holly said the bull was "Graham's pick" - the founder of Mordallup Angus stud.
Repeat buyer Pamela Wood, of Green Range, paid $7750 for another Timeline sired bull and bought two other bulls for $6500 and $4750.
Mrs Wood and husband Mark run a straight Angus herd of 300 cows.
Eight Mordallup bulls will be heading across the Nullarbor to various Victorian buyers who returned to the sale in bigger numbers this year.
New buyer Peter Van Rijin, of Warrenup, bought three bulls including Mordallup Boss J178.
This bull goes back to the foundation sire of the Mordallup stud and making a special appearance was Queensland couple Greg and Pamela Webster, who run the Sarum Angus stud, in Toowoomba, in which the Muir family acquired the Sarum Boss B5 semen used to AI pure New Zealand genetics into lot 19.
