Festival to rev up streets of York

Stunt rider David McKenna will be performing at the festival.

The York Motorcycle Festival will explode into town this month.

Now in its third year, the York Motorcycle Festival brings together a motorbike trade expo with a family festival.

The fun begins on Saturday night when the main street of York will be closed to traffic and a free family concert will be held.

The festival officially begins at 10am the following day, with market stalls and trade displays, food stalls, live music, motorbike stunt shows, children's activities, stage shows, a show and shine competition and more.

Local businesses will be open for trading.

Show organiser Peter Woods said he was excited about new additions planned for this year's festival.

"We have secured one of Perth's best rock and soul bands, Boom Bap Pow, who will entertain crowds at the Saturday night street concert," Mr Woods said.

"We will close the main street off from 4pm, and will kick off the music early evening for a free and family friendly street concert.

"Camping grounds will be made available, plus there is a variety of accommodation available in York.

"The festival itself will feature one of Australia's top professional street bike stunt riders Dave McKenna, who will be the star of the weekend.

"There will be moto trials, freestyle demos and more; plus live music by the one and only Badpiper, who is well known in WA as the world's only flame-throwing, leather-clad, tattooed heavy metal bagpipe musician."

Mr Woods said another attraction is the show and shine at York Town Hall, where visitors can check out the bikes on display and vote for their favourite.

The York Motorcycle Festival brings about 5000 people to the town, and is a charity event to help raise money for WA organisation Wheels for Hope.

Part of the WA Motor Trades Association, Wheels For Hope helps WA families by providing vehicles to families who have children with disabilities.

Wheels for Hope will host a charity ride to the York Motorcycle Festival as part of the fundraising.

The York Motorcycle Festival is on Sunday, April 13, in Avon Terrace York. For more information, visit www. yorkmotorcyclefestival.com.au.
