UPDATE 1pm: The Perth arm of Minter Ellison has snubbed advances from its East Coast counterparts, with most of its partners jumping ship to start up a local presence for US firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.
Minter Ellison Perth broke the explosive news this morning, saying Squire Sanders was finalising talks with the majority of its WA partners.
It is understood 15 of the firm's 19 partners will remain at the Perth firm, which will be rebadged Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in the next two to three months.
Four partners will set up a new Perth presence for Minter Ellison, as part of the firm's financially integrated East Coast offices.
Minter Ellison's senior East Coast partners had been in discussions with their Perth counterparts for about 12 months in an attempt to orchestrate a financial integration.
Chief executive partner John Weber said it had "become clear that our two firms have differing commercial objectives in the WA market".
Minters plans to recruit an additional six partners when it opens its new digs in October.
