Austal wins $11m US Navy job

Austal has secured an $11 million cost-plus-award-fee order against a previously awarded contract.

The company will provide engineering and management services for advance planning and design in support of the Post Shakedown Availability for Littoral Combat Ship USS Jackson (LCS 6).

Under the contract, Austal will provide design, planning, and material support services for the vessel.

The work will include program management, advance planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling.

The work will be performed at Austal's shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, and Fairfax, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by September next year.

Austal has a US$3.5 billion contract from the US Navy to build 10 Littoral Combat Ships and a separate US$1.6 billion contract to build 10, 103-metre Joint High Speed Vessels.

Shares in Austal were off half a cent to $1.925 at 9.30am.
