A $220 million development on the site of the historic former Australian Broadcasting Corporation studios is set to become the latest addition to the Perth skyline.

The 38-storey Concerto tower will be the second-tallest apartment building in Perth behind the Emu Brewery redevelopment, which is under construction, and the tallest in East Perth.

When the project is launched on Saturday, it will mark a milestone in the redevelopment of the heritage-listed site, which has been vacant since the ABC moved in 2005.

Property developer Finbar Group and its Singaporean partner Ventrade Australia have spent years planning the redevelopment.

Ventrade bought the site for $37.58 million in 2008.

Construction is expected to start next year and will be completed in 2017.
