Ericsson to deliver NBN to the bush

Ericsson Australia has won the contract to deliver fixed wireless and satellite services for the NBN across regional and rural Australia.

NBN Co today revealed the four-year contract would see Ericsson also maintaining the responsibility for the operation of the NBN's fixed wireless service.

In addition, Ericsson will manage the ground systems of the forthcoming long term satellite service.

The two satellites, purpose-built for NBN Co, are scheduled to launch into orbit next year.

The contract will see the existing 42,000 interim satellite users on the NBN, which includes 5530 West Australians, transfer to Ericsson's the long-term satellite service when it begins.

No financial details on the deal were disclosed.
