SCEE wins $25m BHP contract

UPDATE 2.30pm: Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) has won a $25 million contract for BHP Billiton's Yarnima power station near Newman.

Managing director Simon High said the company was pleased with the opportunity to execute electrical and instrumentation at Yarnima and looked forward to continuing to develop its relationship with BHP.

The $US600 million Yarnima power station will deliver 190 megawatts of energy for BHP's Newman iron ore operations.

WorleyParsons is the lead contractor on Yarnima. Forge Group had been working on the project before it collapsed.

SCEE shares were up two cents, or 4.21 per cent, at 49.5 cents.
