Ausdrill names new Africa COO

UPDATE 2.20pm: Ausdrill has named John Kavanagh as the new chief operating officer of its African division, replacing Chris Tuckwell, who quit last week to return to mining contractor MACA as managing director.

Mr Kavanagh has 20 years' experience with the company, mostly spent in West Africa, and has been the general manager (West Africa) for the past seven years.

In his new role, Mr Kavanagh will oversee Ausdrill's operations throughout Africa, providing leadership to the company's West African team, led by Darren Wheadon, and the East African team, led by Chris Gall.

Ausdrill managing director Ron Sayers welcomed Mr Kavanagh to his new role and said the company would continue to invest in Africa where there were "tremendous opportunities".

Shares in the company were off 0.5 cents to 93.5 cents at the close.
