UPDATE 2pm: Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) says it has won two Rio Tinto contracts collectively worth more than $10 million

SCEE said the work, which forms part of Rio Tinto's Electrical Infrastructure Replacement program, would be carried out at Cape Lambert and East Intercourse Island and included the replacement and refurbishment of electrical equipment.

The award follows SCEE's successful completion of phase one of the works.

The work will start immediately and take about 12 months.

SCEE shares closed up one cent, or 1.32 per cent, at 77 cents.
