'Day crew set up Maddox porn play'

AdultShop.com's Queensland-based computer experts set up managing director Malcolm Day's partner Bree Maddox as a so-called webmaster paid to direct potential customers to their internet pornography.

And a District Court jury has been told that Ms Maddox received $1.6 million in payments for her services in a 12-month period and was subject to special payment arrangements at Mr Day's request.

Queensland entrepreneur Dean Shannon had his team set up the former Penthouse Pet of the Year and Curtin University marketing graduate with the site wickedteensluts.com about three months after he vended his pornography business into AdultShop.com in July, 2001.

Under questioning by lawyer Martin Bennett, Mr Shannon said setting up the site for Ms Maddox was unusual because "she couldn't do it herself".

AdultShop's pornography division paid webmasters up to $US70 month for each signed-up customer they sent to AdultShop's internet pornography sites, which seemed to be enjoying surging sales in late 2001 and in the first half of 2002.

Dealings involving Mr Day and Mr Shannon have come under intense scrutiny in the trial of colourful Perth identify John Kizon and his share trading partner Nigel Mansfield.

Mr Kizon and Mr Mansfield are alleged to have engaged in a series of insider trading conspiracies in 2002 after allegedly getting inside information from Mr Day. However, lawyers for the accused men have portrayed Mr Day as a company spruiker telling lies about AdultShop's affairs. They have also pointed to heavy share selling by Mr Shannon, his business partner Steve Jones and Mr Day's AdultShop co-founder Rod Smith.

Mr Bennett said Ms Maddox incorporated B.Mad Online Pty Ltd and B.Mad International Pty Ltd to hide her identity as a webmaster and used the name Danny Maher.
