Shares in gold miner Regis Resources and mining contractor MACA were placed in a trading halt this morning, pending an announcement regarding heavy rainfall which has affected the company's Duketon project near Laverton.

The Nick Giorgetta-chaired Regis produced 288,591 ounces across three mines at Duketon last year.

The Moolart Well, Garden Well and Rosemont mines are all within 130km of Laverton, which received 33mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am this morning.

Mining operations across the Goldfields were affected last month by widespread flooding.

Regis shares started the week at $2.74 but have climbed 8.5 per cent to $3.09 yesterday before the trading halt was called.
