UPDATE 2pm: Swick Mining Services says it has won a three-year drilling contract with MMG at its Golden Grove mine in the Mid West and Rosebery mine in Tasmania.

The three-year contract with two one-year extension options covers the underground diamond coring requirements for the two base metals mines.

Swick said it would begin drilling operations early in the New Year, with a total of eight, full-time rigs deployed across both mine sites by the end of January.

Managing director Kent Swick said the company was very proud to have been selected as the new contractor for MMG's underground coring work.

"MMG has significant assets in the APAC region and we look forward to developing the same strong working relationship we already have with MMG at the Dugald River project in Queensland with their teams at Golden Grove and Rosebery," he said.

Swick did not disclose the value of the contract.

Shares in the company closed up 1.5 cents, or 5.56 per cent, at 28.5 cents.
