Silver Lake appoints Tonkin to board

UPDATE 1.55pm: Gold miner Silver Lake Resources has named former Reed Resources managing director Luke Tonkin as operations director and executive director on an annual salary of $400,000 a year.

"This critical appointment will be responsible for the coordination and optimisation of operational synergies between the Murchison and Mount Monger operations and assessing Silver Lake's extensive project pipeline," Silver Lake said in a statement.

Silver Lake said Mr Tonkin had also held senior management roles at WMC Resources, Sons of Gwalia, and was managing director of Mount Gibson Iron for seven years.

Silver Lake's chairman Paul Chapman said Mr Tonkin's operational and corporate expertise would further complement the company's strong range of board skills.

Mr Tonkin left Reed in August after the company was forced to reveal big asset writedowns and a restructure of its business, focusing on cutting costs and preserving capital.

Reed also decided to pull the plug on its Meekatharra gold mine, which is now being marketed by administrators Ferrier Hodgson.

Silver Lake shares closed down four cents, or 4.48 per cent, at 64 cents.
