NRW wins $50 in new contracts

UPDATE 1.15pm: Contractor NRW Holdings says it has won more than $50 million worth of new contracts including a $32 million Rio Tinto contract which is part of its five-year framework agreement with the mining giant.

The contract involves the upgrade of an existing 31km stretch of road between Great Northern Highway and Rio's West Angelas mine in the Pilbara.

The contract is expected to run for 29 weeks beginning in January next year.

As many as 120 workers will be employed on the project at its peak.

NRW also announced it had won an Ernest Henry Mining contract for road construction in Queensland and a Fortescue Metals Group contract for civil works at the Thomas Marshalling Yards. The contracts are collectively worth $19 million.

NRW shares closed down two cents, or 1.1 per cent, at $1.795.
